Wollaton Hall

Looking for some lovely spots for outdoor family photography in Nottinghamshire? You’ve got to check out Wollaton Hall!

It's one of my most popular locations to shoot at, is a goldmine for outdoor family photos.

The grand house is a fantastic backdrop for your photos, with little spots and corners to capture some amazing family photos.

The formal gardens are also great for group shots with loads of different backdrops to choose from. Whether it's the perfectly manicured lawns or the fancy flowerbeds, you'll find a spot that suits your family's vibe.

One occasions the old rose green house is sometimes open which is another little fantastic spot to capture some photos amongst the roses.

Newstead Abbey

Newstead Abbey – it’s seriously awesome for outdoor family photography in Nottinghamshire.

Originally built as a priory way back in the 12th century, this place is dripping with history. You can just imagine the stories those old walls could tell! But it's not just about the history; the scenery here is amazing and makes for some fab backdrops.

First off, the architecture is incredible. The old stone buildings and arches give your photos a timeless feel. It's like stepping into another era, which adds a bit of magic to your family images. Plus, there's this lovely contrast between the old stonework and the greenery all around, so it really makes your photos pop!

The grounds are massive – we're talking 300 acres of parkland. That means loads of space for the kids to run around and for you to find that perfect shot. The lakes here are top-notch too. 

There are also some stunning gardens that are perfect for a family photoshoot. The walled garden is super cosy and great for more intimate shots, while the formal gardens give you that classic, well-manicured look. And if you're into a more natural setting, the woodland areas are great for capturing the kids exploring and having a blast.

Elvaston Castle

Elvaston Castle’s got a bit of everything for a lovely photoshoot if your looking for somewhere in Derbyshire.

The kids will absolutely love it here, and let's be real, happy kids make for the best photos. There’s this wonderful mix of woods, lawns, and even a beautiful walled flower garden.

You’ve got the castle itself, which looks straight out of a fairy tale. It’s perfect for those dramatic, wow-factor shots. The stone walls and turrets give the photos this old-school charm that's hard to beat.

From early spring to late summer the walled flower garden is a burst of colourful flowers which are fantastic at adding that little something special to your photos. From Lavender to little rose arches there's so many little hidden corners to capture your little one running around or some family moments over by the wooden pagoda.

The pace here is pretty fast, with loads of different settings to explore, so there's never a dull moment. It keeps the kids engaged and happy, which means you get some cracking photos. And because there’s so much variety, you can get a mix of different shots all in one session.

Parents can relax a bit too, knowing the kids are having a blast. It’s a win-win. Plus, with so many areas to roam around, there’s always something new to discover, keeping everyone on their toes. Rufford Abbey

Right, let’s talk about Rufford Abbey. Nestled in the heart of Nottinghamshire’s countryside, this spot is fantastic for outdoor family photography in Nottinghamshire.

The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, with loads of different settings that are perfect for snapping away. You’ll find plenty of spots that scream ‘picture perfect’.

One of the best things about Rufford Abbey is the vibe – it's super chilled. You can take your time exploring, finding those lovely little nooks and crannies for some awesome shots. The abbey itself is pretty cool, with its old stone walls and history. It gives your photos that timeless feel that’s hard to beat.

And the gardens? They’re just lush. Imagine capturing the kids running through open spaces, flowers in bloom all around them – pure magic. There’s also a woodland area that’s fab for more natural, candid shots. The kids can go on little adventures, and you can get some really genuine images of them just being themselves!

Rufford Abbey offers fantastic seasonal opportunities throughout the year, from Bluebells in May, to kicking amongst the browning leaves in the autumn. It’s perfect for capturing those special moments that you’ll want to remember forever.
