Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about my natural, relaxed photography sessions in my cosy Nottingham studio and outdoor locations across Nottingham and Derby.

Newborn Photography FAQs

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK A NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER IN NOTTINGHAM?
I normally say it's best to book your newborn shoot as soon as possible, Just after your 16 week scan is perfect. This is to ensure we are able to arrange the best shoot date for your due date. It cuts down on stress for you leading up to baby being born but also means you won't miss out on them first few weeks.
CAN I HAVE SOME FAMILY PHOTOS TAKEN WITH MY NEWBORN SHOOT?
Yes of course, during my newborn photoshoots I always love to capture those special moments of everyone together as a family and siblings.
WHAT IF MY NEWBORN DOESN'T ARRIVE ON TIME?
We all know newborns are never predictable which is why all my newborn photoshoots are booked in as provisional date, which can easily be adjusted if baby arrives early or late. There is no extra charge to reschedule.
HOW LONG DOES A NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION TAKE?
Depending on the package you have booked my newborn photoshoots normally can be any where from 2-3 hours. This gives us enough time to go at your babies pace, have time to settle, feed and change. I never like my newborn photoshoots to be rushed and my newborn sessions are baby lead.
Is my baby too old for newborn photos?
Not at all — it’s never too late to capture this special stage.
While newborn photography is often done within the first 2–3 weeks, when babies are still very sleepy and naturally curled, beautiful images can still be created beyond this time. Older babies may be more awake and expressive, which brings a different but equally lovely feel to your photos.
My sessions are completely baby-led and relaxed, so we simply work around your baby and what they’re comfortable with. Whether your baby is a few weeks or a little older, we can still create natural, timeless images for you to treasure.
What if baby doesn't sleep?
Please don't worry if your baby doesn't sleep during their session. Every baby is different, and some newborns are naturally more alert than others.
My newborn photography sessions are completely baby-led, which means we work around your little one's needs. There's plenty of time built into the session for feeding, cuddles, nappy changes and settling if needed.
While sleepy newborn photos are lovely, awake images can be just as beautiful. Those bright eyes, curious expressions and little stretches are all part of your baby's story and often create some of the most memorable photographs.
The most important thing is that your baby is comfortable and content. Whether they sleep the entire session or stay awake taking everything in, we'll create beautiful, natural images that you'll treasure for years to come.

That’s completely expected — and absolutely nothing to worry about.
My outdoor family sessions are relaxed and child-led, so there’s no pressure for your children to sit still or pose. Instead, I encourage natural movement, play and interaction, which is where the most genuine, beautiful moments come from.
What time of day is best for outdoor family photos?
Outdoor family sessions in Nottingham are usually scheduled during the early evening, when the light is softer and more flattering.

Birthday & Cake Smash FAQs

DO YOU PROVIDE PROPS FOR BIRTHDAY SESSIONS?
Yes I have a small selection and neutral props which we can use on your birthday photoshoot. From "ONE" letters, to birthday hats, wooden cakes etc. I also have a small selection of birthday outfits which are available for you to pick from as well.
What age is best for a first birthday or cake smash photoshoot?
First birthday photoshoots are usually done when your baby is around 10–12 months old, just before or around their first birthday.
This is a lovely stage to capture as your baby is often sitting confidently, full of personality and beginning to explore — perfect for natural, relaxed images in my Nottingham studio.
Do I need to bring a cake to a cake smash session?
I give all parents the option regarding the cake. They can either bring one on the day or can have a beautifully hand made cake included for an additional fee.
What if my baby doesn’t like the cake or gets upset?
Every baby reacts differently — and that’s completely normal.
Some babies love the cake straight away, while others are more curious or unsure. There’s no pressure at all — I follow your baby’s lead and gently capture whatever unfolds, whether that’s smiles, curiosity or cuddles with you.
These real moments often make the most meaningful images.
How long does a first birthday photoshoot take?
Birthday and cake smash sessions are relaxed and typically last around 45 minutes to 1 hour.
This allows enough time for simple portraits, exploring the setup and enjoying the session at your baby’s pace — without things feeling rushed or overwhelming.
