Your session will take place in my cosy home studio in Newthorpe (NG16), Nottingham.
The space is designed to feel warm, calm and welcoming — somewhere you and your baby can feel completely at ease. Many parents tell me it feels more like visiting a friend than attending a photoshoot.
Everything is set up ready for you, with soft, neutral styling to create timeless images that won’t date. I also have a selection of neutral toys available to a thoughtfully put together client wardrobe which can all be used during your session.
A Natural Approach to Birthday Sessions
My first birthday sessions are all about capturing your baby as they are at this stage, no fuss, busy set ups and gimmicks.
There’s no pressure for your baby to sit still or behave a certain way — instead, I follow their lead, allowing them to explore, play and interact naturally.
If you also choose a cake smash session, it’s kept simple and relaxed:
No bright, overwhelming colours
No forced moments

What Happens During the Session
Your session will flow gently and naturally.
We’ll usually start with some simple, clean portraits before moving into more playful moments. We can have a couple of outfit changes along the way, and If a cake smash is included, this will follow once your baby is settled and comfortable.
There’s always time for:
Breaks if needed
Cuddles
A change of pace
Every baby is different, and your session will be shaped around them. I give a rough time frame for my shoots but please don't worry about always checking the time, we can run over slightly if it means capturing the perfect image.
Simple Styling & What to Bring
I keep everything minimal and neutral to keep the focus on your baby.
You’re welcome to bring your own outfit, I go more in-depth regarding colours/styling in my Welcome guide which is sent over to all clients upon booking your shoot.
I also have a small, thoughtfully curated client wardrobe available, perfect for first birthday sessions in my Nottingham studio.
Simple, soft tones always work beautifully and help create that timeless look.
