If you’ve booked and are preparing for your newborn photoshoot in Nottingham or still thinking of booking a newborn session, it’s completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and uncertainty — especially if it’s your first baby.
Many new mums wonder what actually happens during a session, how their baby will behave, and whether they need to prepare anything in advance.
The good news is that newborn photography especially during my sessions are designed to be calm, relaxed and completely baby-led. My aim is to make your experience feel as easy and enjoyable as possible, so you can simply settle in and enjoy those early few weeks with your baby.
A Calm, Welcoming Studio Environment
Your newborn photoshoot will take place in my cosy home studio in Newthorpe (NG16), Nottingham.
I have thoughtfully created the space to feel warm, quiet and welcoming — somewhere in which you can relax from the moment you arrive. Many parents tell me it feels more like visiting a friend’s home than attending a formal photoshoot.
Everything will be prepared for you, including soft neutral wraps, blankets and simple styling, to a small curated client wardrobe so there’s no need to worry about bringing lots with you.

A Baby-Led, Unhurried Approach
One of the most important things to know is that your session will never feel rushed.
Every newborn photoshoot I offer in Nottingham is completely baby-led, meaning your baby sets the pace. Some times this might mean we don't take a single photo in the first 45 minutes, that's completely fine.
There’s plenty of time for:
Feeding
Changing
Cuddles and settling
If your baby needs a break, we pause. If they need extra comfort, we take our time.
This gentle approach helps keep your baby calm and comfortable, while allowing me to capture natural and peaceful images.
How You’ll Feel During Your Session
Many parents arrive feeling slightly nervous — especially in those early newborn days. It's understandable, maybe having your photo taken isn't something that comes natural to you - I get you.
But very quickly, that feeling shifts.
Because everything is calm and unhurried, you’ll find yourself:
Relaxing into the experience
Enjoying quiet moments with your baby
Taking a little pause from the outside world (Those first few newborn weeks are normally such a blur)
For many, it becomes a chance to slow down and to simply be present with your family.
What Happens During the Session
Your session will flow naturally, without pressure or strict posing. I start of with a little plan but this can quickly move around depending on how your little one is.
I’ll gently guide your baby into soft, natural positions, focusing on:
Tiny details (hands, feet, features)
Relaxed, sleepy moments
Natural connection with parents

My style of newborn photography is all about simplicity, as my main focus is always about your new little baby and capturing them perfectly just as they are.

Bright colours
Busy props
Overly styled setups
Instead, I use soft, neutral tones and minimal styling to create timeless images that won’t date — photographs that feel natural and true to your baby.
