How to Display Your Family Photos at Home
Family photography is more than just taking pretty pictures—the images are snapshots of love and happiness. But instead of keeping them tucked away in standard albums or digital folders, why not turn them into a beautiful part of your home decor?!
Maybe getting and displaying prints is way down on your ever growing to-do list, but i'm going
to show you why and how displaying your family photos is important.
Plus I can do most of the hard work for you.
Whether you love a sleek modern look, a cosy lived-in vibe, or something in between, there are plenty of creative ways to showcase your memories. As a family photographer in Nottinghamshire, I am going to tell you how to display your family photos at home…
First of all I would always recommend printing your photos in some way. Just think if the worse was to happen to your phone and you were to lose everything. If you printed out your images at least you would still be able to look back of times that have passed.
Looking at your photos every day is also so important. Yes of course you could scroll back through your phone, but having them displayed so that your children can see them as well is very important. The joy that it'll bring you when they can see themselves proudly displayed on the wall.

Displaying your photos in the Right Frames
So, when you're picking out frames, think about what kind of vibe you want in your home.
Going for a modern look? Sleek metal or acrylic frames are your best friends. If you’re more into that vintage feel, wooden frames with a bit of character will do the trick. Mixing and matching different styles can give your space a unique, quirky touch. It doesn’t all have to be matchy-matchy, you know? Think of it as curating a little art gallery at home.
A couple of my go to places for frames if you're wanting inspiration is Dunelm and Ikea. They both have a wide variety of sizes and finishes at a very respirable price for good quality
Different colours and finishes can really bring out the best in your photos. Black frames are super classy and work with pretty much anything, while white frames can give a fresh, clean look. Got a bold photo? Pop it in a colourful frame to make it stand out even more.
Don’t forget about the matting either. A good mat can make a photo look much more polished. Keep it simple with white or off-white, or go bold with a contrasting colour.
And here’s a nifty tip: if you’re stuck for ideas, lay your photos and frames out on the floor first. Move them around until you find a layout that clicks. You’ll see what works together before making any holes in your walls.
It’s always fun to add a mix of sizes when you display your family photos at home. Throw in a few big frames with some smaller ones to keep things interesting!
Creating a Gallery Wall
Creating a gallery wall is like making a mini art exhibit in your own house. Start by picking a spot that gets noticed – living rooms, hallways, or even staircases work great. Grab a mix of frame sizes and orientations to keep things looking interesting. You can even chuck in some art prints or quotes that mean a lot to you.
Begin by laying everything out on the floor to see how it all fits together. Trust me, it saves loads of hassle later. Use paper templates or painter's tape on the wall to map out where each frame will go. This way, you avoid extra holes in the wall.
Don't stress about everything being perfectly aligned – sometimes a bit of organised chaos looks more natural and lived-in. Try mixing portrait and landscape photos, and feel free to overlap a little for that layered effect.
Add in some personal touches. Maybe you've got a cool postcard from a holiday or a piece of your kid’s artwork – throw it in there! It’s these little things that make your gallery wall truly yours. Remember, it’s about capturing the essence of your family and home, not just sticking up a bunch of photos.
And hey, don’t be afraid to switch things up from time to time. Change out the photos or add new ones as your family grows and creates new memories. Keeps the wall feeling fresh and up-to-date.
Prints can come as included in your session package or added on as extras after your gallery. Either way making sure your prints are professionally printed is key to making your displayed photos stand out. Let me take the hassle from you trying to remember to get your photos printed. Maybe its been on your growing to-do list to get some printed but you just haven't got round to it yet. I'll sort everything for you and even hand deliver them to your door.
