Getting Your Newborn Ready for the Photoshoot

So let's talk about how to get your tiny one all set for their newborn photoshoot.

Timing really does make a difference here. Aim to feed them right before their session so they’re all content and snoozy. A little bath before the shoot can work wonders too, making them nice and calm with those adorable rosy cheeks.

Dress them in something loose and easy to take off, No one wants a fuss when you're trying to get those cute outfits on and off. I always say start with a base layer of a plain white vest top as a start. I do have a few outfits we can use from my client wardrobe, but please feel free to bring a couple of outfit options but nothing too fancy or complicated. Simple and comfy is the way to go!

Make sure you’ve got some essentials ready—extra nappies, wipes, a blanket, and maybe a favourite toy or dummy to keep them relaxed. You never know when you might need to do a quick nappy change or a little comforting.

And hey, if your little one has a meltdown (it happens), don’t stress. Take a breather, give them a cuddle or a quick feed, and they’ll likely settle down soon. The key is to stay relaxed because babies can definitely sense your vibes.

Keep calm, go with the flow, and we will capture some lovely moments with these newborn photography tips!

Creating my Cosy Home Studio Setup

When you think of a photoshoot in my home newborn photography studio in Nottinghamshire, think of warm and comfy vibes.

I always want the space to be snug and inviting, but not overly hot. I use soft blankets and cushions to make a nice, cushy area where your baby can relax. It's all about making the space feel welcoming.

Now, let's chat about props. I like to keep it simple. We don't need a ton of stuff cluttering the area. A few neutral backdrops and maybe a cute toy or two are enough. The focus should be on your little one, not a bunch of flashy props.

Simplicity lets your baby's cuteness really shine!

And of course, we can’t forget about safety! I will always keep an eye on your baby and make sure they're secure. If we are using any props, I will double-check that everything is stable and safe. You want those adorable shots, but safety first, always.

Finally, have a few comfort items on hand. A favourite blanket or dummy can help keep the baby calm and happy during the newborn photoshoot. The more relaxed the environment, the better the photos will be.

So, let’s set up nice and cosy, and you're all set for a great session!

Setting the Mood

Let's talk about setting the right mood for your newborn photoshoot.

We want things nice and chill, I will always have a white noise machine on hand, just in case. It helps keep everyone calm and sets a relaxed tone.

If you've got a favourite blanket or soft toy that your baby loves, have it around. Familiar items can help make the space feel more like home and keep your baby comfy.

So, soft sounds, gentle light, and maybe a soothing scent – that's your recipe for a perfectly relaxed vibe!

Timing Matters

Timing really is key for your newborn photoshoot.

You want to plan the session when your little one is likely to be the most relaxed and happy. Usually, this means right after a good feed and a nap. Babies are much more cooperative when they’re content and snoozy.

When booking the session, aim for a time that fits your baby’s routine. Mornings can often be a good bet, as they’re typically in a better mood. But hey, every baby’s different, so just go with what works best for yours!

Now, don't stress if things don’t go exactly as planned. Flexibility is your best friend here. Sometimes, you might need to take a little break if the baby gets fussy. Give them a cuddle, a quick feed, to calm them down. Remember, it's all about keeping things relaxed.

As for the session length, about two- three hours is usually perfect. It gives us enough time to get those lovely shots without overwhelming the baby. We will keep an eye on their cues; if they start to get too cranky, it might be time to wrap things up.

Timing matters, but so does keeping a chilled vibe throughout. With a bit of planning and a laid-back approach, we will nail it.

Keeping Baby Comfy

Let's talk about keeping your little one comfy during the newborn photoshoot.

It’s all about creating a cosy environment. I keep the room at a nice toasty temperature throughout.

Feeding and napping come first. Make sure they've had a good feed and a nap before the shoot. A full belly and a rested baby are way more likely to stay happy and relaxed.

Keep some comfort items on hand. A favourite blanket or dummy can be a real lifesaver. If they start to get a bit fussy, sometimes all they need is a quick cuddle or a little rock to calm down.

Remember to stay relaxed. Babies can totally pick up on your vibes, so the more chilled you are, the better.

Make sure to have extra nappies and wipes within reach. You never know when a quick nappy change might be needed. And don’t forget a bottle or two if you're not breastfeeding.

Just keep an eye on their cues.

If they seem uncomfortable or need a break, go with it. The more at ease they are, the better the photos will turn out!
