‘Why its important to include sibling photos in your newborn session’

Welcoming a new baby into the family is one of life’s most beautiful and emotional moments — but it’s not just a special time for mum and dad. Big brothers and sisters are having their own little journey too, adjusting to their brand-new role, building their first bonds, and discovering what it means to be part of a growing team. That’s why, as a natural newborn photographer based right here in Nottingham, I always encourage families to include sibling photos in their newborn session.

Here are my top 3 reasons why these sibling shots matter so much:

1. They Show the Beginning of a Lifelong Bond

Those first cuddles, shy kisses, or even curious glances from older siblings are precious. They mark the very start of a relationship that will grow and evolve over a lifetime. Whether it’s a proud big sister gently holding her new baby brother's hand, or a cheeky toddler trying to catch their little sibling when playing, these moments are raw, real, and completely irreplaceable.

Capturing them means you’ll always have a snapshot of their first days together — a story you’ll all treasure for years to come.

2. It Helps Older Siblings Feel Special and Included

Let’s be honest — having a new baby around can be a big change for little ones. Including them in the photoshoot gives them a chance to shine, feel important, and know they’re still a big part of the spotlight too.

During our relaxed, baby-led sessions, I take time to engage with older siblings (often through games, silliness, or gentle prompts) so they feel comfortable and confident. The result? Gorgeous, natural images that celebrate them just as much as baby — and that helps nurture the love between them.

3. It Tells Your Full Family Story

Your family has just grown, and that’s a story worth telling in full. A newborn session that includes siblings captures the bigger picture — the love, the laughter, the chaos, the cuddles — the real stuff that makes your family yours.

And trust me, years from now, when you’re flipping through your album or passing those prints around at family gatherings, you’ll be so glad to see everyone there in the frame, exactly as they were at that beautiful, blurry, love-filled time.

If you’re expecting or recently welcomed a new addition, and you’re looking for a relaxed, natural photography experience here in Nottingham, I’d love to help. My sessions are cosy, calm, and baby-led — with plenty of time for snack breaks, cuddles, and sibling giggles.

Because these moments? They’re fleeting — but the memories can last forever.
