Intro

One of the most common messages I receive from parents is:

“Have we left it too late for newborn photos?”

The simple answer is — absolutely not

Many families looking for a newborn photographer in Nottingham worry that if their baby is already a few weeks old, they’ve somehow missed the opportunity to capture those early memories. But the truth is, beautiful, meaningful newborn photographs can still be created well beyond those first couple of weeks.

Every baby is different, and every stage brings something special.

When Are Newborn Photos Usually Taken?

Newborn photography sessions are often booked within the first 3 weeks after birth.

During this stage, babies tend to:

Sleep more deeply

Curl naturally into sleepy poses

Be easier to settle

This is why many traditional newborn sessions are photographed early.

However, this doesn’t mean your session can’t happen later after 3 weeks. The newborn stage technically doesn't end until 12 weeks, so there's plenty of time.

Older Newborns Are Beautiful to Photograph Too

If your baby is already a few weeks old, please don’t panic.

Older newborns often bring:

More eye contact

Little expressions, smiles and even giggles

Stretching and movement

More interaction and personality

These moments are just as beautiful to capture and can create a slightly more natural, awake and connected feel to your gallery.

Some of the most meaningful images come from babies simply being themselves.

Every Session Is Baby-Led

One of the reasons parents choose my newborn photography sessions in Nottingham is because my approach is calm, relaxed and completely baby-led.

There’s never any pressure for your baby to sleep or fit into certain poses.

Instead, I gently work around your baby and what they’re comfortable with on the day, allowing the session to unfold naturally and unhurriedly.

Whether your baby is:

10 days old

4 weeks old

or even a little older we can still create timeless, natural photographs for your family to treasure.

What Changes as Babies Get Older?

As babies grow, sessions naturally adapt slightly.

Older newborns may:

Spend more time awake

May not prefer being wrapped, or being posed on their tummy

Be more alert and expressive

This simply means your gallery may include:

More eye contact

More connection

More natural moments

Rather than focusing heavily on sleepy posed images, the session becomes more about capturing your baby’s personality and your connection together.

A Relaxed Experience for New Mums

I know how overwhelming those early newborn weeks can feel.

Between feeding schedules, lack of sleep and adjusting to life with a new baby, time passes incredibly quickly. Many parents initially plan to book sooner but simply need more time before feeling ready.

That’s completely okay.

My cosy home studio in Newthorpe (NG16), Nottingham is designed to feel calm, welcoming and stress-free, allowing you to settle in and enjoy the experience without pressure.

There’s plenty of time for:

Feeding

Changing

Cuddles and comforting

Everything is led by your baby’s needs.

It’s Never Really About “Perfect Timing”

More than anything, newborn photography is about preserving memories.

The tiny details, sleepy cuddles, little expressions and the feeling of this stage — however old your baby may be.

Years from now, you won’t be focused on whether your baby was 10 days or 6 weeks old. You’ll simply be grateful you captured those moments before they changed.
